A morning by the river, School assembly, Brisbane Open House weekend and the dog park.

Elliot's school celebrate NAIDOC each year with a full school assembly. NAIDOC is National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee.

'This theme for 2025 is: The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy'. This theme celebrates the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC week and focuses on the achievements of the next generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders. It also acknowledges the guidance of elders and the legacy they have built.'

Each class had decorated a door in their classroom representing what they had learnt about the indigenous culture and 2 children from each class explained what they had learnt as a class. The assembly ended with a full school 'dance', all 700 children and their teachers.

As Kerri wasn't working on my final Friday we went to the city to take a walk over the new Kangaroo Point bridge. I think it is a very elegant bridge and Kangaroo Point is the suburb where Richard and Kerri had their first apartment many years ago. We took our coffee and hot chocolate (after all it was only about 26C) and sat on a seat in the middle of the bridge for a while.

We could see Richard's office building from the bridge so we sent a message to say where we were. He took a picture of us on the bridge while we took a picture of him at his window. What do you mean you can't see either of us!! There I am waving madly!

Brisbane has an 'Open House' weekend similar to our own when many properties that are not normally  open to the public, open their doors to visitors for just 2 days a year. Richard and I visited 2 properties. The first Windsor Council Chambers. Then on to Newstead House overlooking the river and set in a beautiful park.

Windsor Council  Chambers were designed by Thomas Coutts and built from 1896-7.

'Newstead House is Brisbane's oldest standing European residence. It was once the finest home in the colony of Moreton Bay, boasting a reputation for lavish parties. Built in 1846 it tells the story of early colonial life in Brisbane - of ambition, loss and resilience.'

Dog parks are everywhere in Brisbane and Dusty just loved the freedom to run off the lead. There could be 100 other dogs there but her only interest was chasing her ball.
